La réunion, mardi 9 décembre, était coprésidée par Karen Chshmaritian, ministre de l’Economie de la RA et Gunnar Wiegand, directeur pour la Russie, le Partenariat oriental, l’Asie centrale, la coopération régionale et l’OSCE au Service Européen d’Action extérieure (SEAE).

On December 9, the 15th meeting of EU-Armenia Cooperation Committee was held in Brussels. The meeting was co-chaired by Karen Chshmaritian, RA Minister of Economy and by Gunnar Wiegand, Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and Regional Cooperation and OSCE, European External Action Service.
The Armenian delegation attended the meeting composed of the representatives of RA Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Transportation and Communication, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, as well as the head of the Armenia mission to EU.
During the meeting the sides discussed the EU-Armenia relations in the context of the European Neighborhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership, as well as issues related to the future framework of EU-Armenia relations, the legal basis and formats of further bilateral relations, current and future developments of trade and economic relations, as well as issues related to the assistance of the appropriate programs provided by EU to the RA. It was decided to continue the discussions, and to clarify directions for future cooperation during upcoming months through videoconferences and negotiations, which would be acceptable for the sides and will create conditions for further regulation and development of the relations.
The agenda of the meeting included the rule of law, human rights and fundamental freedoms, cooperation in the field of transport and energy, settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, issues related to Armenia-Turkey relations, etc.
During the meeting were also discussed issues related to the visa facilitation and readmission agreement, the launch of the visa liberalization dialogue, the implementation of transportation projects and EU further assistance to that projects, negotiation process of signing the RA-EU common aviation area agreement, ongoing reforms in justice field, and, respectively, changes and supplements of number of laws and regulations.
Reference was also made to issues related to upgrading and modernization of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, development a strategy of safe management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel.
On December 8, Karen Chshmaritian, RA Minister of Economy met with Violeta Bulc, the newly appointed European Commissioner for Mobility and Transport. The sides discussed the possibilities of cooperation.
